Curating your Energetic Algorithm

Are you someone who regularly hits green lights when driving, and always seems to get a good parking spot? Or do you anticipate red lights, and usually end up having to walk far to your destination?

Do you wake up most days feeling excited and energized for a fresh start, or begrudgingly roll out of bed simply because you have to?

Have you often cited "murphy's law" in relation to your life? Or do you believe yourself to be lucky and often say you're "blessed?"

These are all examples of how your frequency affects your physical life and your experiences. It's the law of attraction, or what I'm playfully calling the "energetic algorithm" lately. We all know how digital agorithms work: if you share cooking photos online, your feed will fill up with more cooking content. Or if you like a post from a fitness influencer, you will be shown more fitness influencers. If you talk about needing new sneakers (within earshot of your phone) you will later be shown advertisements for various tennis shoes.

Since we're addicted to our phones (admit it) I've begun thinking about the law of attraction more like an algorithm. When we put good out, more good comes to us. When we "like" something the universe responds by giving us more things like that. On the contrary, if we mope around and give most of our attention to things that are bothering us, we will be bothered more. There is a saying, "Energy flows where attention goes," meaning if youre paying a lot of attention to something (good or bad) you're feeding your experience to have more like that.

I've always believed that spoken and written gratitude is one of the quickest and easiest way to raise your frequency. And yet, even for me, it is often way too easily neglected or forgotten about. If I'm being honest, this is coming to mind for me now because I've been playing into loops of negativity (even though I know better). My energetic algorithm has been off. I've been noticing and harping on things that annoy me, and expect frustrating things to happen perhaps more than I notice things that delight me, and expect exciting things to happen. But acknowledgment is the first step. And the good news is: I know I create my algorithm, and noticing that it's not operating to my benefit is the key to changing it. We're all capable of changing our surroundings and experiences by interacting differently with them.

Here are a few easy things I've been prioritizing in order to enhance my "energetic algorithm" (that you might feel inclined to try too):

  • DAILY GRATITUDE - Spend time every day writing down, or saying aloud, things that you're grateful for. The key here is to feel the happiness these things bring you. Smile as your write, or envision the things as your speak them. Bonus points if you think to do this in the moment (example: "Thank you universe for this bomb ass parking spot," or "I'm really grateful you washed those bottles and pump parts, honey. Thanks for being awesome."

  • DANCE/MOVE YOUR BODY - This is about physical endorphins that are released with movement (not to mention emotions are stored in the body and we have to move to get the stagnent ones out). It's super hard to feel annoyed, depressed, or negative while dancing to music you love, or going to an exercise class that you enjoy. The key here is to choose a form of movement that you like - it will not benefit you to run 3 miles if you hate running and are pissed the whole time you're doing it.

  • MEDITATION/MOMENTS OF SILENCE - When we live in constant noise there isn't much room for personal discovery or expansion. Spending time (even just 5 minutes) in conscious silence/meditation will allow your mind to process things that need processing. The key here is absolute quiet; there is a time and place for guided meditation/music, but in order to untangle your current headspace/energy you need quiet moments. Do not use this time to force any thoughts or feelings - if "negative" comes up, allow it, acknowledge it, and then gently release it by returning to your breath and focusing on that.

  • GOING OUTSIDE - There is tons of evidence that shows being outside, grounding on the earth, breathing fresh air, and taking in sights of nature is extrememly benefical to overall health. Personally I feel closer to God, Source, The Universe, or whatever you choose to call that when I'm outside, which makes enhancingy your frequency especially potent.

If I'm going to feed the algorithm, I want it to show me blissful and beautiful things as often as possible (which should be easy because I have a 10 month old and he's magic - an absolute delight). I'm of course not rejecting the necessary scope of emotions (honor everything), but know when you're doing too much. I'm consciously choosing to focus on the abundance an joy in the world. We're always allowed to notice where we are and how we're showing up, and pivoting or changing if that feels right. We are allowed to choose again.
